Charlotte’s DNC Tour Guide

3 02 2011

George Washington referred to Charlotte as “a trifling place” in 1791, but we can assure those traveling to the 2012 DNC that President Washington was more than a little off the mark. CCTT has compiled a list of five places that any proud Democrat must see during their stay in the Queen City.

1) NASCAR Hall of Fame

The NASCAR Hall of Fame is new and an absolute can’t miss. If you truly have the blueiest of blue-collar interests at heart, you will be doing yourself a disservice if you don’t check out the landmark dedicated to a sport favored by America’s ugliest and poorest people. Oh, and remember the driver named Dick Trickle? He was terrible, so he’s not there. Just wanted to throw his name on there.

2) Andrew Jackson’s Birthplace

Get in touch with your Democratic heritage by visiting the birthplace of former President Andrew Jackson! Yes, Andrew Jackson was born in Waxhaw, North Carolina, which is just thirty minutes south of downtown Charlotte. It’s possible that Jackson even got his idea to forcibly remove Native Americans from the land of their fathers in this quaint setting. Trail of Tears? More like Trail of Fun!

3) Standing in both North and South Carolina at Carowinds Amusement Park

Remember when President Obama was elected and it was decided that “we are one”? Well, what better way to reignite that flame then by standing in two states at one time! Yes, you heard me correctly. You can actually stand in North Carolina and South Carolina at the same time. Pretty sweet, huh?

4) Bank of America Corporate Center

Come see your bail-out dollars at work! You won’t be let inside, but you can look on in amazement as corporate executives walk in and out of the lobby still not giving a shit about the little guy.

5) Charlotte Bobcats Pre-Season Game

After spending all that time in Time Warner Cable Arena you’ll want to see where the real magic happens. Watch the Bobcats prepare for the 2012-2013 NBA season. Check out Gerald Henderson, DJ Augustin, and Nazr Momahmmed. They’re all special and inspirational athletes. Actually, you may just want to skip that. The Bobcats will really bring you down from your DNC high.
