CCTT Interviews Coach K

14 03 2011

CCTT was thrilled when Duke’s head basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski agreed to speak with us about his team’s upcoming chances in the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament. Sadly, Coach K was not as forthcoming as we would have liked. We’ve copied the interview below.

CCTT: First, thanks for speaking with us today and second, congratulations on another ACC Tournament victory. You mentioned that this current team improved during the conference tournament. How can your squad continue to improve each game in the NCAA tournament?

Coach K: Leader leader leader leader. Leader leader leader, leader. Leader leader leader leader? (laughs) Leader! Leader, leader leader leader leader.

CCTT: Okay. Well, let me try that again. Kyler Singler has been going through a three point shooting slump during the last half of the season. Is there anything you can do as a head coach to help him get out of the slump?

Coach K: Leader leader leader leader. (pauses) Leader, leader leader leader leader leader leader leader. Leader leader leader, (changes voice to sound like TV pundit) “Leader leader leader leader leader!.” (laughs) Leader leader leader leader leader. Leader leader leader, leader, leader, and leader.

CCTT: Wow. All right. One more time. You’ve spoken at length this season about the positive impact Nolan Smith has had on his teammates, his fellow students, and the community of Durham as a whole. Is there any one story you can point to that would really give a clear picture of what makes Nolan Smith so special?

Coach K: Leader leader. (lengthy pause) Leader leader leader leader leader. Leader leader leader leader. Leader, leader, and leader. Leader leader leader leader leader! Leader leader (audibly emotional and crying a bit) leader leader lea (pause) der. Leader. Leader leader leader leader?

CCTT: Well. I guess will let you get back to tournament preparation. Thank you Coach for your time today.

Coach K: Leader.

And that was that. Sadly, we never got to ask him which Plumlee he’d rather trapped with on a desert island. I guess he would have picked Mason if he was basing his decision purely on desert island potential, but he may have picked Miles, the less athletic Plumlee, if he wanted someone who he could eat if starving and not really feel that bad about it.
